Attended a wedding recently. Was very surprised at how nice the venue was. Great view of the Lake. Overall it was a great experience. Unfortunately it rained and was cold (that's what they get for an April wedding) so we didn't get to go out to the beach or the garden areas of the venue.
Earlier this year, they finally renovated the bathrooms so that they're cleaner and more modern, with proper sinks and urinals and everything. However, they also made the (in my opinion) boneheaded decision to remove the benches. Putting my duffel bag on the bench as well as being able to sit on it to change, put on sunscreen, etc. was very convenient for me, especially in a relatively open and spacious area. Now, I have to use one of the toilet stalls and hang my bag on the coat hook inside, which isn't nearly as convenient as I don't have as much room unless maybe I use the handicap stall, which I'd rather not do since I don't want to keep any disabled people waiting. I'd also much rather have my duffel bag sitting on the bench rather than hanging on a coat hook when rummaging through it, putting stuff into it, taking stuff out, etc. (I refuse to let my bag touch the bathroom floor, as clean as it may now be).
A great potential drawing card for the city of Rochester. However, it needs some serious cosmetic work to fulfill that potential. With a very walkable access to the beach and tennis or pickle ball courts it's a gem for Charlotte neighborhood. Suggestions; subdivide the 2nd floor venue adding a night club, fix or replace the access elevator and the stairs to the 2nd floor. Persuade Abbots ice cream to relocate or expand into the 1st floor area and broaden the 'history murals' of the harbor to include interactive displays - perhaps in conjuction with the Rochester Museum. Finally advertise the venue to the rest of Monroe County. Just a thought.
