Beautiful trail around island. Bikes, dogs walkers. Benches along trail, port-o-johns. Nice restaurant, open seasonally.
I recently biked to Washington’s Landing Park from the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, enjoying some stunning views of the river, bridges, and Pittsburgh’s skyline along the way. The park itself has a great mix of activities, with tennis and pickleball courts, an open field, and walking trails. There’s even a small natural amphitheater seating area that’s perfect for relaxing and reading a book.
I love biking thru here on clear, crisp days. The views are stunning. This area is a well-kept secret in Pittsburgh. It is rarely crowded.
Awesome view from Washington’s Landing and a fun trail that goes around the island. Pickleball courts were packed so we played tennis instead. Discovered some sort of restaurant over there as well. Will have to revisit
Current Google directions lead you to Millvale Riverview Park instead of here at Herrs Island North Park. Directions should lead you on to the RT 28 end of the 31st Bridge where there's a turn-off for Riverfront Dr. Follow this part of Riverfront Dr. to make it on to the island. Follow the island toward the right until you reach the round-ish parking area. There should be a building there, a Port-A-John and a broken water fountain. Up from there is a fenced in Tennis court, a grassy and swampy area to the right that has a decent slope and then a flatter multi-sloped field beyond the tennis court which is far from the parking area and Port-A-John if you're carrying anything or looking for convienince and accessibility.
