Cole Park Pickleball Courts

This review was from my post on FB " Dallas Pickleball Association" Reviews of my 54th visit to a facility on 74 DFW / North Texas cities with 306 locations. This one is Cole Park. DPA (Dallas Pickleball Associations) Rating: Overall, 8.3 / 10*. Location on 4000 Cole Park. 6 Outdoor courts: 7.5/10. 3 of the courts has a drainage drop off about 3 feet behind the baseline. Some of the courts have shade during the early morning. Parking lot has some shade. There is one portable potty near the parking lot Cost: Free. 3 courts have wind screens. One problem is that some of the players continue playing after they have completed a game. It’s kind of hard to enforce play at Cole Park. Cole Park Pickleball hours are 5 Am – 10 Pm. The best thing is the hours of open play and 6 courts. We arrived at 10am on Thursday 08 /01/24 and there were players on 5 courts. Players of all skill levels were playing there. Mostly a younger crowd. There is a Pickleball rack for the paddles outside the fence which is what you use when all courts are in play. Pros: Lots of hours for Pickleball players and 6 courts; free; good separation between courts Cons: drainage near the baseline on 3 of the courts. Enforcement of playing on courts. (Most people abide by the rules of leaving the court after their game to 12 win by 2 is over). I've heard it gets real crowded during peak times.
I was in town visiting and attempted to get one game in (just so I can say I played in Dallas TX). I had a few hours before my flight back to Utah and showed up with no paddle (7/3 evening, so it was busy). I pitched my desire to the 20 people waiting to play asking if I could join a game and borrow a paddle. I informed them I was visiting from Utah and wanted to play one game before catching my flight. After no response from the crowd, one of the regulars whispered to me, “that’s kinda too much to ask”. I explained the culture in Utah and how any out of towner who showed up to play would be welcomed. I waited for about 45min and no response from anyone. The Pickleball community in Utah is totally different. Players who play regularly carry a back up paddle and more. It was my fault for assuming the Pickleball community would be similar here. Dallas TX failed this social experiment 👎🏾 On the other hand I could say they had an organized paddle system with a challenge court. Game play on the challenge court was a mix of 3.5-4.5.
There’s 6 pickleball courts, all surfaced very well. Lots of people willing to group up and have a good time. Everyone’s been friendly and showed sportsmanship.
This is a beautiful local park with great pickleball courts. There are only six courts, but there's a pretty good system for getting people on and off. Weekends can be crowded.
