Remarkable historic churches are scattered throughout Charleston, and each has a story to tell. Among the city's most interesting is the brownstone Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, a neo-Gothic structure built to replace the previous cathedral, which was lost in the devastating 1861 fire that destroyed much of the city. It has some notable stained glass windows as well. The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist is a magnificent beacon of faith and heritage in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina. It stands as the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston, which encompasses the entire state. This awe-inspiring structure with its Neo-Gothic design serves not only as a place of worship but also a symbol of the deep-rooted religious convictions that contributed to the city's rich history. Visitors to the cathedral are often struck by the awe-inspiring architectural features and the peaceful reverence the space invokes. Taking a stroll through the nave, you're met with towering columns and pointed arches that lead your gaze heavenward. The stained glass windows recount biblical stories in vibrant hues, and the precise details are enough to captivate anyone's attention for hours.

One of our amazing stops for Jubilee 2025. This Cathedral is the oldest church in New Jersey. Rich in history. So awesome inside. The Pastor Monsignor was so interesting our group wanted to stay to listen to him. We clapped for him so many times. This is a stop I will never forget and will live stream some of his Masses.

Beautiful church! Wonderful staff! It was my first time in this church to Baptize my baby boy. It was a wonderful experience. Even though there were other baptisms going on we did not feel left out or unattended. The class we took before the baptism took place was wonderful. Not boring or unrelated to the topic of what it is to be Baptize it was very spiritual uplifting i gave it 4 stars because the parking in the area is very tough. The church is located in the heart of down town Paterson which is a very busy area as well as having meter parking not making parking assesscible

Absolutely breathtaking! A hidden gem in a concrete jungle! Plus, they have a free parking garage so you’re not hunting for a parking spot!
