First time visit, it was around 10:00 in the morning, so it was quiet, area was neat and the environment didn't have a menacing feel to it; vehicle parking was limited as far as i could tell; porta-toilets were available.
My little getaway Started going to it to play basketball 🏀 and get me outside my apartment. i go at random times doing the weeks but there is always something that keeps me going back. There is a beauty Park secret you can see the sunrise from the basketball court
This is a nice park with tennis courts, always basketball games going, an old train car for kids to climb on, and a decent playground especially for younger kids. However. Lately it's been full of people who appear to be living there, inhabiting both picnic areas, and I am pretty sure I saw a drug deal happen. Also they cat call you, yell random stuff at you, and/or ask you for money while you are there with your kids. I no longer feel safe going to this park alone with my son. It's a shame because he loves it but we now go to other nearby parks instead. I just wanted to leave an honest review of what is going on at this park for other moms.
So here is an update October 2024 Went back to Bruce park for the first time since 2023, here is my assessment: Way to go COJ! This park has been cleaned up! They put updated playground equipment in, added new mulch, cleaned up the trash and best of all the splash pad works! I now have a 1yr old and a 2 year old. Both enjoyed the park, especially the two year old. Not much to do for the 13 month old yet but that is the case with every playground at that age. Will definitely be back! —————————— June 2023 I’ve been trying out local parks for my 17 month old toddler. This park ranked the worst out of my list for today. I went to Bruce park, Gamewell Tot park, Gerrie Park, and lastly Victory Park. What I’m looking for in a park, is location close to home, I feel safe there alone with my toddler, it is clean, and has a playground suitable for a 17 month old. Here’s my opinion of Bruce Park as of 6/25/23: Pros: It is close to my home It has a small toddler slide It has toddler swings Cons: I did not feel safe here No shade in the playground area There was dangerous trash in the playground area To elaborate: I only stayed and allowed my toddler to play as there was a group of people setting up a net ball tournament. If that group was not there I would have immediately left as there were people doing drugs in the pavilion right next to the playground and in the other pavilion next to the playground were loitering men. I did not feel safe and will not return. The dangerous trash was metal beer caps, cigarette butts, random pieces of soggy clothing. Again my purpose for coming was for a playground for my toddler who as a toddler does wants to pick up everything and explore. I was on constant guard of her putting a cigarette butt in her mouth.
