I’m sorry but nothing about this new gym layout makes any sense. What once was a super functional gym is now crowded, non functional, confusing space were random equipment was placed. Isolating the equipment is not functional at all and just creates major crowding. This gym operated way better as two separate gyms. Even at non peak hours this gym feels like there’s 100s of people in here.. when there’s no one here. If you have to work two separate body parts you have to walk across the entire gym, making supersets impossible. No new gym equipment was added, maybe cardio? The machines awkwardly placed facing someone else while working out. The bench area is an absolute mess. They’ve completely rendered cable machine useless as they had to awkwardly corner it. There’s no flow, equipment in walking areas. It’s crowded but yet there’s dead spaces everywhere. It would have been nice to reach out to members before making this drastic change. This layout does not make any sense at all please revert back to the way it was, sincerely long time YMCA member.
This is a great gym. I love going here instead of NC State Carmichael. I am student at state and it is way less crowded at this Y and a lot of open space in the workout room. There is plenty of basketball courts too usually open if you want to play pickup with other people or shoot around by yourself
First time visiting this location. I enjoyed the space. I expressed to the front desk that it was my first time using my Triangle membership here and Rodney was more than willing to give me a full tour. I learned a lot. I appreciate the initiative Rodney took to show me around and explain each area to me. I never fully got this at the home location. I love that I can charge my phone on the cardio machines while working out. The cardio area is spacious. The assisted weight area is perfect and I like how there are separate spaces for different workout focus areas (cardio, assisted strength and functional fitness). The indoor pool is perfect for all year enjoyment. I look forward to continuing to go to this location even if it's a few extra minutes out. The service here was fantastic!
I drove a hour and 15 minutes away to find a gym with childcare and was asked to leave 15 minutes after arriving because my son with autism knocked something over, mind you.. no where on the site does it state that special needs children are not allowed (and yes I told them about him having autism upon arrival) so honestly you’d think they’d know what to do in situations like this, but obviously not. They didn’t even give him a second chance! He was immediately asked to leave! You would think a place of such would have specially trained individuals that know how to handle kids that have disabilities because special needs parents want to work out as well! Now if I would’ve came to get him and I would’ve heard him yelling, screaming, throwing a tantrum, and just being belligerent, that would’ve been a different story, but when I was asked to come get him he was chilling by himself in a good mood, so I don’t see why he couldn’t get a second chance because as a caring parent I would’ve happily cleaned up whatever he knocked over, apologized for his actions in his defense because he’s nonverbal, and continued to workout but they didn’t even give me that option. I just feel as though if they can’t handle children with special needs it should state that on the site. I drove there with high hopes and left with nothing but disappointment. Do better.
As a traveling triathlete it’s great to find another well equipped ymca. This one is extensive with multiple floors. The indoor pool is 25 yards and about 85F. There are a number of stationary bikes around that measure power and will upload your workout to stava through a secondary app. I was not able to connect it to Zwift but it might be possible. The staff here is super friendly and helpful.
